How To Avoid Clogged Drains
Stubborn clogs. These cause
thousands of homeowners a ton of grief every year—sometimes multiple times a
year. When a clog happens, the typical routine ensues. Grab the trusty plunger,
and get to work. But what if you could avoid this entire situation? What if you
didn’t have to have clogs, or at least not as frequently? To avoid a clogged
drain, we recommend a few of the following tips.
Watch What Goes Down The Drain
What goes down your drains will
inevitably have an impact on whether or not there is a clog. For that reason,
you should be watching what goes down the drain—or at least realize what can
cause a clog to happen. Oils are generally a contributing factor to clogs.
Whether it is from grease down the drain, soaps, or even oils from your skin,
all can stick to the lining of your plumbing pipe. Once there, the oils will
cling to hair or anything else that goes down the drain.
Know Signs of Problems Early On
Is there a way to know that
you’re going to have a clogged drain? Other than water backing up out of the
drain? One of the first signs of trouble is slow-moving drains. If your sink,
shower, or tub is slow to drain, there is a clog forming inside the drain. The
clog will continue to grow, shrinking the passageway for the water to move.
For toilet clogs, you’ll notice
that it doesn’t flush the same or as quickly. Water might stay at the bottom of
the drain or not fully drained and fill back up. Gurgling sounds are also a
sign of trouble.

What To Do If You Have A Clog
Drain cleaning is one of the
best ways to get rid of a troublesome clog. We highly advise against chemical
drain cleaners. Chemicals can damage the lining of your plumbing pipes which
can cause a larger problem down the road than the clog you’re trying to treat.
Drain cleaning with hydro jetting can give you the best results as well as
lasting results.
